Stuntman falls from ceiling, actor sees ‘scary thing’ | Curse of black magic.
Throughout the filming of the movie Curse of Black Magic, various strange incidents had to be endured involving the actors and production crew.
This was confirmed by the director of the movie, Azaromi Ghozali, when he spoke about the experiences during the making of the film.
“One could say we had to go through all sorts of events. Among them, a stuntman who fell from the ceiling to the floor of the room after seemingly being pushed by something, resulting in a broken hip bone.
“Similarly, the incident experienced by the two main actors, Zahiril and Elvina, who also saw a ‘creepy thing’ right before their eyes. Anyway, I am relieved that the filming could continue until completion,” he said.
Talking further about the film, Azaromi stated that the term ‘Waruga’ might be somewhat unfamiliar among Malaysians, but it means the burial place or grave (tomb) of the deceased for the Minahasa tribe existing in Indonesia.
He explained, according to Minahasa belief, the body of a deceased person will be buried in Waruga with both knees drawn up to the chest like the position of a baby in the womb because it is believed that the body will be reborn in the future.
Adding further, looking at the uniqueness of this belief, it has inspired D’ Ayu Pictures to produce a film titled Waruga – Curse of Black Magic.
“The idea to produce this film started with the storytelling of a writer named Gawar Sawba’yah about this ancient belief.
“At the same time, I also had an idea for a horror story related to black magic and corpse worship, which indirectly relates to the belief of the Minahasa tribe. So I combined these two ideas to create the film Waruga.
“This film talks about black magic and worship to revive the body of the deceased. I chose the title Waruga as a symbolic and inspirational to the rebirth ceremony according to Minahasa belief,” he stated.
Azaromi said, some scenes shown in the movie are not too extreme because they are bound by guidelines set by the Film Censorship Board to maintain community sensitivity.

However, he stated that it does not affect the storyline and scenes that were felt inappropriate have been toned down to be suitable for viewing and Film Waruga received a P13 rating.
Scheduled to be screened in cinemas on FEBRUARY 15, 2024, Waruga features a lineup of popular actors such as Zahiril Adzim, Datin Elvina Mohamad, Eriza Allya, Sahronizam Noor, Ustaz Dinie, Along Eyzendy, Izzue Islam, Ruminah Sidek, Nizam Kama, Adik Putri Amirah Maisara and Adik Syed Irfan.
Undergoing filming around Lembang Klang in March 2021 for 20 days, he states that Waruga is not just another horror script.
He clarifies, his latest directed film provides a difference by raising many relationship conflicts further strengthened with horror elements.
“For this film, I use the concept of ‘open ending’ so that the audience can imagine for themselves what happens next.
“Anyway, I want those who watch this film to see from a positive perspective about the message delivered, for example, some who are still deceived by the devil’s tricks to the point of committing misguided and unacceptable acts in the religion,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Producer from D’ Ayu Pictures, Dato Rosmarayu Mokhtar said, his party is interested in producing horror films because the horror genre is one of the local audience’s favorites and often receives a good response.
He said, after the first time producing the horror film Night Fragrance, he feels that Waruga, which cost RM1.8 million to produce, presents an interesting storyline inspired by an ancient belief.
“Of course, as a producer, I certainly hope this film receives a warm reception from the audience, especially horror film fans. And for now, I have been proposed by three distribution companies from Indonesia to have simultaneous screenings there. Film Waruga will also be screened in other ASEAN countries such as Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore, Brunei, and the Philippines.”
“At least with encouraging earnings, perhaps this film will have a sequel, or I will continue to produce other horror films as well,” he said. – KopiPlanet.com
SUMMARY
The story is about a traditional medicine student named Rewan who cannot accept the death of his wife. Rewan begins to plead with Mbah Usu Lijah, his medical teacher, because he knows Mbah Usu Lijah has the knowledge to revive a body without a soul through the ancestral book of the Mihanasa tribe. However, Mbah Usu Lijah does not allow it to happen because Rewan is not of that descent, and if he still wants it, it must go through several phases or periods. Rewan’s impatience escalates to the point that he is willing to steal the book and kill Mbah Usu Lijah.
Before all these events took place, Rewan had instructed his only son Yamin to leave the village so that no unwanted incidents would occur to Yamin because of his actions. After 10 years, Yamin has married a girl named Ardila and lives peacefully with her. However, Yamin keeps his family a secret, stating that his parents have long passed away.
