TELAGA SURIRAM : LOSS OF MYSTERIES, BLOODY MYTHS
DADI Cinema, Pavillion, Kuala Lumpur – The premiere of “Telaga Suriram”, a horror story linked to the incident of missing children, is certainly one of the cases that often becomes the focus of the community.
Although most cases can be solved by the authorities, there are also a few cases that remain a mystery.
Therefore, it sparked the idea for the production company Odissi Creative Sdn. Bhd. to produce a film titled TELAGA SURIRAM.
Its director, Osman Ali, said the film was inspired by a story that happened a long time ago, where a child died after falling into a well.
“There are stories or myths from the past that relate to the belief that old wells are haunted and take human lives.”
“So, we thought it would be very interesting to produce a script that combines dramatic mystical elements with old beliefs passed down from generation to generation,” he explained.
Telaga Suriram revolves around the incident of a child named Suriram whose disappearance became a mystery to the villagers.

Interestingly, the film also features a cast of great actors such as Maya Karin, Scha Alyahya, Farid Kamil, Ellie Suriaty and child actress Puteri Rafasya.
Osman said that his latest directorial work also has differences compared to other horror films.
“Telaga Suriram is not just an ordinary horror film that only relies on elements of surprise or ghosts.
“I want to bring an approach to the attitudes of a select few in the surrounding community who are still shackled and bound by mythical beliefs that are part of our culture,” he said.
Talking further about the film-making process, Osman admitted that he also faced challenges during filming.

He said that most of the filming locations were in traditional village areas that had their own stories to achieve a more authentic horror atmosphere.
“The locations we chose all have their own mystical stories, so there are indeed spooky events that happen, such as mysterious voices.”
“In addition, there are crew members who feel they are being watched and see strange sights. However, we consider that all part of the challenges of the job,” he said.
Meanwhile, Yus Yusop, as the producer, said that the idea to produce the film Telaga Suriram began because of his interest in folk stories that are rich in historical and mystical elements.
He said that based on discussions with the director, his party felt that such a story was very suitable to be brought to the silver screen.
“This film was produced in 2022 and underwent a very thorough process from the script stage to post-production. That’s why it took three years to complete in its entirety.”
“However, I believe the wait for it to be shown on the silver screen is worth it with quite impressive results,” he said.
Apart from hoping for a warm reception from the audience, Yus also hopes that this film will not only attract the attention of horror film fans, but also those who appreciate the arts and culture of the people in this country.
Telaga Suriram is the 17th film directed by Osman Ali and the debut production of Odissi Creative Sdn. Bhd. in collaboration with Osman Ali’s production company, Nuansa Films, which will be shown in cinemas starting May 1, 2025.
Telaga Suriram underwent a 45-day filming session starting at the end of January 2022 which took place in Perlis, Kedah and Perak.
