First Journey - Perjalanan Pertama
This film tells the story of a Minang family relationship between Gaek Tan (Ahmad Tamimi Siregar) and his grandson Yahya (Muzakki Ramadhan). They are forced to undertake a long journey on an old Vespa that hasn’t been used for 50 years. Starting from a painting order for a customer (Randy Pangalila), Gaek Tan, a craftsman at the famous dowry-making shop “Warisan Chaniago,” is eager to deliver the painting. Throughout the journey, Gaek Tan and Yahya encounter various obstacles and valuable experiences that uncover the secrets of Yahya’s family history, previously unknown to him.

“First Journey” is the third film by Arief Malinmudo as a director. His previous works include “Surau dan Silek” (2017) and “Liam dan Laila” (2018). This film was previously nominated for Best Drama Category at the Muslim Film Festival, Australia 2021, and was selected to compete at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF) in December 2021. The Film Censorship Board (LSF) has classified this film as suitable for viewers of all ages.
