LAKNAT: PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR FILM STARTS THIS JUNE
Psychological horror film LAKNAT comes with a terrifyingly out-of-the-box promotional approach — not on screen first, but on the streets, through e-hailing campaigns, interactive contests and live visual surprises.
The film’s story takes viewers through the tragedy of Laila’s loss, which leads to the emergence of the devil as a ‘helper’. Driven by guilt and grief, Luth accepts an offer that blurs the boundaries of reality and deceit, entangling himself in the death and suffering of those around him — all a game of the devil.
Director Saw Teong Hin describes the film as a “visual and emotional test of human belief,” and the promotional campaign aims to make viewers experience the disruption before the film hits theaters.
“Through this unique promotion, we want viewers to experience the shadow of the disruption earlier before entering the cinema. Not forgetting our distribution and marketing partner, D’Ayu Pictures, who made this campaign a success from the streets to the big screen,” he said.
Interestingly, LAKNAT’s promotion also pushed the boundaries of convention. Starting on April 11, the production team launched an out-of-the-box promotional campaign that went straight into the community.

Film director, Saw Teong Hin, described LAKNAT as a cinematic work loaded with symbolic layers and psychological shocks that can disturb the audience’s emotions.
“This film is a visual and emotional journey that challenges the limits of one’s sanity and belief in what reality is. Our desire is for the audience to experience the disruption before they even step into the theater,” he said.

The film stars a cast of great Malaysian actors such as Puteri Balqis, Aeril Zafrel, Amerul Affendi, Umie Aida, Jalil Hamid, and Noorkhiriah, including a special appearance by Sofia Jane, who is expected to play an important role in bringing this script full of inner conflict and mystical elements to life.
Ahead of the public screening, the production team has carried out a large-scale face-to-face promotional campaign that is creative and unique, to introduce LAKNAT directly to the public.
In terms of implementation, the LAKNAT promotional campaign was physically driven through a creative approach on the ground. A total of 10 e-hailing cars were selected and decorated with special film-themed stickers, making them moving elements that stole the show.
Three promotional teams were also formed, involving a combination of artists, promoters, videographers and drivers, who together made this promotional activity a success. They travelled to public hotspots, including strategic locations such as Mydin Subang Jaya and surrounding areas.
This activity lasted for three hours, starting from Kekos Coffee Café in Bandar Baru Bangi, before traveling to major destinations to bring the film closer to the audience in person.
In addition, the interactive “Spot, Snap & Win” campaign which runs from April 11 to May 24 also gives the public the chance to win exclusive tickets to the film’s gala premiere night.

Throughout the campaign period, members of the public are invited to participate in an interactive “Spot, Snap & Win” contest, where they have to find the mystery car adorned with LAKNAT movie stickers, take a picture and upload it to social media with the designated hashtag. This entry provides a chance to win free screening tickets and an exclusive invitation to the premiere gala night.
So far, 10 winners have been announced, and there are still 20 exclusive tickets left to be won, complete with the chance to walk the red carpet with the main cast.
With a bold promotional strategy, psychologically disturbing visuals, and storytelling that questions reality, LAKNAT is set to haunt cinemas across Malaysia starting June 5, 2025.
Did the disturbance that Lut experienced really come from another world, or just a manifestation of an increasingly fragile soul? All the answers await — only on the silver screen.
